WELCOME

I love teaching children and watching their confidence soar!

I serve students primarily who struggle with spelling, reading and writing and with students with dyslexia. I provide an individualized, diagnostic, prescriptive, explicit, direct, systematic, and multi-sensory teaching approach based on the Orton Gillingham Approach. I will help students gain confidence while becoming proficient readers through hard work and play!  I promise to make it fun!

Orton Gillingham methods are a component of the highly effective evidence-based teaching model that is used to provide effective reading intervention. I will provide effective reading instruction based on an understanding of your students individual learning difficulty. The earlier your child receives the RIGHT intervention the sooner they will begin to succeed. I am here to help!

“We love Mrs. Ott!  She is an amazing educator with so much knowledge and experience in helping children achieve their potential.  She sincerely loves what she does and loves the kiddos.  Oliver has progressed so much in his literacy abilities.  The most special thing is his confidence level is sky high.  Mrs. Ott has given him the skills to be able to feel smart and capable of doing anything he puts his mind to. Finding and working with Mrs. Ott is the best thing we have done for Oliver!”

Laurie & Tom

"Our daughter just had her school conference and she had made a ton of growth in reading.

She often gets excited because she will sometimes already know the rules or explanations from her sessions with you! I think that is giving her confidence, so thank you!"

“I love Mrs. Ott!  I wish I could see her every day.  I am learning how to read. I like to read now.”

Oliver - Student

"This year since seeing Mrs. Ott, Mara’s reading ability has improved tremendously! She is reading chapter books on her own, she graduated from the reading intervention program in her school, and has so much confidence in her ability to read. I can’t think of a better way we could have invested in our daughter’s education. We as parents have a sense of relief knowing that Mara is now confident in her reading abilities. Mrs. Ott, we can’t thank you enough!"

FREQENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What will happen when my child comes to tutoring?

What is the cancellation policy?

For individual tutoring students, in each session will learn or review a skill/strategy that is based on each
individual student's need. Lessons are individualized. We will review previous concepts, and will practice new concepts using a multi-sensory approach.

For small group, student lessons will be tailored to the group's needs. Students in these groups will be placed based on need, not age.

Students will learn/ review a new skill or strategy using a multi-sensory approach.

How Long is a Session?

Tutoring sessions usually run about 55 minutes in length for 1:1 tutoring,

50 minutes for small-group. This gives me time to use the Orton-Gillingham approach for the lesson, and then a few minutes for us to chat.

Tutoring spots are reserved for your child only.  Unlike other types of appointments where times are interchangeable; once your spot is reserved for you it is no longer available for other families whether you are there or not.

Please understand that I have turned away other families who could have used the spot.  When you sign up for tutoring, you are reserving that time slot for your child.  Please choose a time that you are able to comit to attending regularly.

If a student cancels a scheduled session:

  • at least 24 hours in advance, the student will not be charged.

  • less than 24 hours before the scheduled session or no show, the student will be charged in full.

Please try your best to give me at least 24 hours notice. I know this isn’t always possible if a child gets sick during the school day. We can discuss these situations on a case by case basis.

If you know of dates you will be out of town, please give those to me as far in advance as possible. We will work together to try to make up any missed days.
